Overview of the Partnerships and Training Series

The Tennessee Department of Education is partnering with the National Association of School Nurses and the Colorado Department of Education to provide a series of trainings to address COVID-19 and chronic health conditions.

The Colorado Regional Nurse Specialists Team worked together to develop these trainings with funding from the CDC. These trainings have been adapted in collaboration with the National Association of School Nurses to be applicable to a national school nurse audience.

This series of trainings will focus on the school nurse role in promoting health equity. After participating in all 4 sessions, attendees will be able to

  • Compare and contrast how COVID-19 has changed how the school nurse provides care for students with chronic health conditions when learning in-person and learning remotely.
  • Describe how to implement school nurse-led case management as a strategy to identify and support students with chronic health conditions at risk for poor health and academic outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Describe the implications of COVID-19 for students who have chronic health conditions (i.e., T1D/T2D, seizure disorders, asthma, severe allergies, mental health concerns).
  • Identify mitigation strategies to address students with chronic health conditions who are at risk for poor health and academic outcomes.
